Executive Pastry Chef Michelle Carlson and assistant Rodney Arnold won top honors at the 2009 23rd Annual Epilepsy Foundation's Prestigious Chocolate Ball. "Under The Mandarin Moon" was this year's theme. Their design was a Pagoda Chocolate Sculpture with a hand-piped chocolate dragon and white chocolate lotus flowers. "The House of Lotus" was a citrus lychee mousse and chocolate ganache layered in a two-tier chocolate Genoise cake saturated in walnut liqueur. They won first place for Show Piece, First Place in Taste and the Grand Prize Overall. Their attention to detail, delicate work and fine-tuned chocolate techniques helped them win this prestigious award. This is Michelle's 5th time winning the Chocolate Ball Prize Award. Other Award Winning creations by Michelle were 2004 Night at the Cabaret, 2005 Ports of Call, 2006 Valentine in Paris and 2007 Pirates of the Genesee. Michelle has been a prominent part of Woodcliff's excellent dessert creations as well as its known reputation for imaginative cuisine and distinctive offerings.
